Internet Fraud

Internet fraud is a type of illegal activity categorized under cybercrime. It involves fraudulent transactions that are carried out in online avenues like e-mail, Web sites, forums, and chat rooms. The objective of these schemes is to deceive unsuspecting victims into undertaking fraudulent deals with the perpetrators and to extract money from them.

Internet fraud is usually targeted at gullible Web users who are always looking for a quick buck, freebies, or pornographic media. In most cases, online services that are involved in these illegal activities try to trick users into giving away their credit card information. Once obtained, the fraudsters then max out the victim's account to fund their own interests.

Some even more sinister schemes are aimed at individuals who are already in dire straits. Knowing that many unsuspecting individuals who desperately need a job would do anything to land in one, fraudsters set up online job markets to lure them in. Whenever a virtually unknown online job market requires registration fees, a job seeker should start suspecting.

One of the reasons why Internet fraud is so rampant is because many people still don't see how anybody can attack them through their own computer. Because of the lack of legislation and consequently the information drive in many countries in Asia, many Asians are victimized by fraudsters. That is to say, it is the lack of information regarding how advanced swindlers are nowadays that is keeping people vulnerable to these attacks
